2022 updates

Last login member search (CMS)

Admins can now see a list of members who haven’t logged in since a specified date. Note we only started capturing last log in dates date in July so users will show “User hasn’t logged in” if they haven’t logged in since before July.

New volunteering notification

We’ve added a new email notification that will be sent to the opportunity owner when a volunteer logs their completed volunteering hours. This is in addition to the on-site notification already in place within the managed volunteering area.

Activity expired email notification

Members currently get an onsite notification when their activity expires, now they’ll also receive an email as well.

Accessibility statement

We've completed our accessibility statement and created an accessibility page with useful information for your users. Your nominated individual will add this page to your platform in the coming days.

New offer/request icons

We have updated the timebank offer and timebank request icons to provide a visual distinction between the two activity types.

Dropbox for Teams

November 2022

We have added the ability to use Dropbox as the 3rd party for sharing documents in teams. This, unlike Google Drive, enables file sharing straight from a device if the team admin has linked to a Dropbox account. 

  • Existing google drive files shared in team spaces will not be affected.
  • Team members can still use google drive to share files, but this option now appears under the “More options” drop-down.
  • Members will see a new set-up file-sharing option when setting up a new team space.
  • Existing teams will see the upload option but will need to link to a Dropbox account to make it work.

Add activity messaging

October 2022

Based on user feedback, we’ve made some changes to the instruction copy that appears on the ‘Add activity’ forms. Our aim is to make the instructions more specific to each activity type. So rather than ‘describe your activity' it now says ‘describe your offer’ etc.

Last login date

October 2022

Admins can now check the last date a member logged in via the CMS. Useful for monitoring member activity and engagement, the ‘last login date’ will be visible next to a member’s profile.

Custom forms update

October 2022

Made Open can set up custom forms for your platform to collect extra member data. We now can embed Best Match filters within these forms which will update a member’s best match settings in their profile.

Accessibility updates

September 2022

As part of our ongoing accessibility improvements in partnership with Can Do Bristol, we are pleased to announce that Made Open platforms are WCAG2.1 99.4% AA compliant.

Members of Can Do Bristol who are visually impaired kindly took part in user testing and rated the platform as 85-90% accessible. We have acted on their feedback to reach 99.4% compliance when assessing each accessibility guideline.

Member view - restricted options

We've added a few options if you want to restrict people viewing members on your platform:

  1. Completely hide the member stream from a platform
  2. Hide members from members stream unless logged in.
  3. Hide members from members stream and hide profile pages unless logged in.

Hiding member profiles from public view may be a useful feature for closed communities that want to safeguard members, for example; vulnerable adults, young people or confidential networks. Our platform already offers the ability to approve members before allowing them access.

Sub-homepage branding options

September 2022

Admins can now change the accent colour for sub-homepages. A useful feature for platforms who have partner organisations with their own identity and projects. Also useful for place-based platforms that may be supporting different local timebanks or regional community hubs.

Ability to hide guides

September 2022

We've added the ability for admins to hide a guide from the main guides list. A guide that is hidden from the list can still be included within a main page. This is a useful feature if you want to create a guide that is targeted at a specific audience, but is not relevant to all visitors.

CMS navigation improvements

August 2022

We've made various changes to the CMS menu to make it easier for admins to navigate and manage their platform:

  • 'Activities' now links to activity overview page with additional menu items for each activity type.
  • All timebank-related links grouped into new 'Timebank' section.
  • All volunteering-related links now grouped into new 'Volunteering' section.
  • 'Member dashboard' moved within the 'Platform management' section and re-named 'sub-dashboards'.
  • 'Set Dropbox credentials' (if you have guides) - moved to Platform management section.
  • 'Menus' (within Platform management) renamed to 'Navigation'.
  • 'Message all members' moved to the member management section.

'Project teams' renamed to 'Teams'

By very popular demand … “Project teams” will now be just “Teams”. This change doesn’t affect any existing links or functionality – only the copy.

Guide notifications for admins

August 2022

Admins of guides will now receieve a notification each time a user adds a comment or submits a feedback rating to a page.

Badge application notifications

August 2022

Administrators now have the ability to set a default badge admin who will receive notifications about new badge applications.

Search improvement – alternative suggestions on 'no results' page

August 2022

We've launched a change to how the 'no results' page works. If a keyword search does to give results, the platform will make suggestions of filters a user could try based on their keyword search.

Accessibility improvements

As part of our accessibility improvement work, we’ve launched a range of updates to the site, including some helpful prompts for users on adding accessible content.

Filtering activities in the CMS

July 2022

We've improved how admins search for activities in the CMS with the addition of search filters. Watch the video to see how it works.

Search improvement - suggested filters based on the activity title

July 2022

This change searches the activity title and automatically adds any matching tags to step 3 of the activity form. The aim is to counter the issue of users not adding tags to their activity. It is worth noting that this is not an intelligent AI system, but we believe it will still play a part in helping prompt users to add the right tags.

Page view counter on activity pages

July 2022

We’ve added a simple page view counter to the activity page to indicate the number of page views.

Storing search data

July 2022

We now store data on search terms used on our sites so that we can better understand user needs and experiences. Further development will be needed to make this data accessible to platform admins.

There is a new page layout option for standard pages called 'Image left text right' and 'Image right text left' available in the ‘Advanced’ dropdown within a standard page.

Search improvements

June 2022

The new activity search design is much simpler as it allows users to type in any keyword or click ‘search options’ to reveal the search filters. 

This has come about as a result of large numbers of users saying that their preferred method of searching is by typing in a keyword.   

Profile reminder email

June 2022

We’re pleased to let you know that your platform will now be sending out an additional email notification. This is a much requested ‘profile reminder email’ which will be sent to new users who have registered on your platform but not completed their profile. This will be sent out 7 days after registration.

If you would like to change the standard email text for your platform, please contact your nominated individual.

Dropbox API update for Guides feature

For those of you that have our Guides feature, we’ve updated how the Dropbox API is handled to make it easier to link up and keep up with Dropbox API updates.

If you have guides, you’ll need to reconnect your Dropbox account. It’s super easy and it won’t affect any existing files.

Sub-homepage improvements

May 2022

We’ve added some new options to the sub-homepage page template. On a sub-homepage you can now:

  • Select activity type on an activity feed (e.g. show only timebank offers or requests)
  • Share selected teams within a new team feed
  • Share selected guides within a guide feed

Duplicate pages feature

May 2022

Have you ever spent ages making a nice page and wanted to duplicate it for another section or maybe even another platform you manage?

Well, now you can with the new 'duplicate a page' feature.

Guide feedback interface

We’ve created a new interface for reviewing the scores and feedback left by members on guide pages.

Event form improvements

May 2022

Event activities now default their availability to a one-off event and if a user adds an end date it automatically populates the expiry date for them.

Nudging members to add postcode locations to their listings and events

May 2022

The 'add activity' forms for Community listings and Events have now been updated so the 'do you want to add a location' map (on page 2) automatically defaults to “yes”. Users still have a choice to toggle to button off if postcode is not relevant for their listing, however they will see a warning message explaining that it won't appear in a postcode search if one is not added.

The aim of this update is to ensure postcode searches return results for users.

Restricting guide content by account type or member badge(s)

Platform admins now have the ability to lock down guide pages and sub-dashboards links to member badges as well as account types.

This means that you can support members with content, training and resources that are relevant to them only.

New activity search design ready for user testing

We responded to feedback that users would prefer to search by free text (primary), then search filters (secondary).

We re-designed the search bar and invited all clients to conduct user testing before making the new functionality live.

New ‘optional’ filter search

April 2022

Some users have difficulty finding search tags from long lists, so we’ve added a new optional ‘quick search’ bar at the top of a chosen drop-down filter list.

As a user types, suggestions are presented for them to select. This can be enabled within the CMS and on a filter-by-filter basis.

Activity image re-ordering

We've created the functionality to re-order images when editing activities, both as a user and within the CMS.

Filter merging

April 2022

Admins can now merge two filters together in the Content Management System. This is particularly helpful for platforms where users add their own search filters (as this is where duplication sometimes occurs).

If you have ended up with duplicates or search filters that are too similar, you can now easily merge them together.  

Ability to delete and restore guides

April 2022

If you are using the Guides feature, you can now delete and restore guides. This is useful if you need to work on a guide for a while without pushing it to live.

Mandatory expiry date for events

March 2022

Adding an expiry date to an event is now a required field to help ensure events don’t appear on platforms after they have happened.

Improvements to volunteer management dashboard

We’ve added a ‘number of responses’ icon to the 'manage activities' page and improved the page load times on activities with lots of volunteers.

Faster loading times for members list in CMS

We’ve improved the load time of the list members page in the CMS. Platform admins will notice a considerable speed improvement, particularly for platforms with lots of members.

Faster loading for Inbox messaging and chatrooms

We’ve improved the design to make inbox and chatroom lists in teams load faster.

Search improvements

February 2022

We've listened to feedback and made some adjustments to how search results appear on platforms. Users can now 'refine' or 'expand' their search results based on relevance.

We have also fixed the issues occurring with the free text search picking up words within words.

New client service portal

February 2022

We've launched a new central portal for platform administrators to submit their bugs, questions and change suggestions. Platform admins can create an account and access status updates about the things they report.
